User Rating:Don’t judge this based on its title, I don’t know why but it gave me the impression of some science showcase where we’d get a virtual simulation of a fire vortex or something like that.
How wrong I was.
Hell Yeah Pocket Inferno turned out to be one of the greatest games I’ve ever played on my iPhone.
The game kinda reminds me of both Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, where the levels are styled similarly to the classic Mario maps and the playing style of the game is reminiscent of our blue and furred friend. A 2D side scroller, the game has players run across levels while collecting tokens, avoiding obstacles and defeating enemies. Seems rather cliche, but makes for a great game concept.
While many other games of the same genre have their gameplay based around a similar system, what sets this one apart lies in the depth of the extensive content. Ranging from lots of fancy levels to unlockable perks and upgrades, it is very obvious that SEGA put in plenty of effort towards the development of this game, making it another premium app as per their entire lineup.
I’ve more than once mentioned how I have a penchant for simplistic games that do not require much effort to learn. However, I also have a soft spot for great plot devices. Hell Yeah Pocket Inferno seems to have been able to combine both, a rarity in the casual games of today.
If I had to pick on something to grumble about, I’d say the in-app purchases prove to be quite a pain. For an app that already costs money to download, the amount of bias towards users who purchase these in-app perks is really unnecessary. Also, these do not come cheap.
But for that one dollar, this game was definitely worth the investment.
