Most kids hear the story of The Little Red Hen when they are quite young. It is a cautionary tale about greed and also encourages children to see the benefits of hard work. Now it is available for children to enjoy on their parent’s mobile device through the The Little Red Hen app. This app offers up a well illustrated version of the story which is read aloud through the speaker on the device.

There is a range of accompanying sound effects that include the hen’s clucks and cackles, and the various noises from the other animals too. If a parent decides to sit and read the story with their child instead, the audio component in the app can be easily disabled. Children can choose the “Read to Me”, or the “Read to Myself” features as well, and this is done with a simple tap on the interface. “Pages” of the book are “turned” by tapping the white indicator arrows at the bottom of each screen as well.

The idea of a reading app for children is really taking off, and the The Little Red Hen app is a great way to introduce even a somewhat young child to the concept of listening to a story.
