User Rating:While there might already be ways to read Wikipedia content on a mobile device, the Articles – The Wikipedia App has been designed to make searching, finding, and reading the articles easier and more enjoyable than ever. Those using the Articles – The Wikipedia App will be able enter search terms such as title or subject, and even select the language required.
The app then delivers the results and the user can enjoy a perfectly optimized display – no squinting or endless scrolling to simply read a single piece. The app also allows the reader to skim through the content via a handy index, and images require only a tap to see in full size and rich detail. Rotating the device provides a landscape view, and a pinch of the screen zooms in on the content.
All articles can be shared through the in-app email link, and all images can be instantly saved to the camera roll. Text size can be adjusted with a single movement, and there is even a random article feature too. Bookmarked content is available offline, and a quick lookup tool allows the user to review all of the content they have read each day.
There are other Wikipedia-oriented apps such as Wikipanion Plus and Inquisitor, but the Articles – The Wikipedia App is designed to make the site fully accessible and easy to use through a mobile device.
The app functions with iPod Touch and iPhone devices, and works in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish languages. The cost for the app is $2.99 and all updates are free.
If you want to really get into Wikipedia while away from your computer this is the right app for you.
