With the handy Chirp! app it becomes easier than ever to know if you are looking at, or listening to, a Mockingbird, Catbird or Finch.

This is because the app can help you to quickly and easily identify species through photos and sounds. The Chirp! app has 110 varieties of birds available for identification, with more being added all of the time. Each bird’s file includes images, at least one sound bite demonstrating the bird’s standard songs, a clearly written description of the bird and its voice, and a map of their usual territory.

The app also becomes a remarkably handy learning tool thanks to the built in quiz feature that tests the listener’s memory skills. Additionally, the app can also provide the user with a detailed list of the birds inhabiting their geographic area based on their mobile device’s current location. The complete map of the United States is also broken down into regions that allow the user to search for birds that may appear in their general location. The app also includes an alphabetical list feature for tracking birds you have seen, or which you want to view.

There are already similar apps available for iPod Touch and iPhone users, such as iBird Explorer, but the Chirp! app is the only one geared specifically toward novice birders of the United States.
