Tapping away at my iPod screen I began to wonder just how odd I looked during the evening train ride home. It took only a nanosecond for me to forget about how I looked and to begin enjoying playing around with the Star6 app. It is a remix tool that lets me use the preset samples, or even import my own, to make wild recordings that I can save, play, or even reverse with just another tap as well.

The Star6 app has a colorful and user-friendly interface that makes it as simple as can be to begin recording my own tracks. There are six built in pads, and seven sample packs, but there are all kinds of free additional options at the developer’s site too. Additionally, it is also very easy to upload from any computer with just a few taps on the screen also.

All of these sounds can be put through the audio engine where the interface has simple touch controls for pitch, gate, speed, and more. There are many different effects and modes that allow beats to be adjusted or certain distortions and filters to kick in as well. One of the great things is that every track is recorded automatically so there is never the risk of missing out on a great experiment or session.

Music fans know that there are already many synthesizing apps, but the Star6 is one that processes sounds and makes customization the focus. It is available only for iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

The cost of the app is $6.99, and plenty of additional sounds are available for free from the developer’s site.

If you want to have some fun or make professional quality recordings, Star6 is a good choice.
