The LEGO franchise has long since successfully embedded itself in the video game market. LEGO Batman: DC Super Heroes is not even the first LEGO Batman game, but it’s among the most fun.
Like all the other LEGO video games, this one is aimed at kids perhaps between 6 and 12 (although older kids might enjoy it as well). You start the game as Batman and Robin and have to wander around certain locales finding LEGO bricks and solving puzzles. You can even fight villains made of LEGO, but it’s a cartoonish violence and no worse than anything you’d see on the Cartoon Network in the afternoon.
While you start as the Dynamic Duo, there are ways to unlock other heroes (and other parts of the game with them). The first is to gather a ton of bricks or otherwise gain points via playing. The other is as an in-app purchase. It depends on whether time or money is more valuable to you.
The controls for the game aren’t terribly sophisticated and even the plot is pretty simple. I enjoyed it more than the last LEGO Batman game I owned (which, granted, was for an earlier iPhone which didn’t even have retina display).
The app is a little pricey compared to other, similar games in the App Store. However, I have no doubt that if you wait long enough, you’ll be able to catch it in a 99 cent sale. If you can’t wait, then there are worse things to spend five bucks on. Enjoy.
Quick Take
Value:Medium-High.
Would I Buy Again:Possibly.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Kids or DC Superheroes fans. Or both.
What I Like:Fun and simple to play.
What I Don't Like:Controls can stick sometimes.
Final Statement:If you're a kid, then this game is as close as you can get to being Batman.
This game includes many hours of content and cinematics that take up a lot of space! You will need 2.6 gb of available space on your device if you install over wifi, but only 1.3 gb of space if you download on your computer and then sync.
As with many large app installations, we advise that you restart your device after installing as this will resolve some stability issues. Also make sure you have installed the most recent firmware.
A few other things we are working on are more frequent saves in the game, and fixing stability issues that some of our players are experiencing.
