User Rating:I like word games. I really do. As a matter of fact, I usually spend around an hour a day playing one or another. There are quite a few available in the APP store. Some provide you with 6 scrambled letters, that you have to find as many words as you can in a given time frame. There are others that provide a static cube of letters that you have to ?connect? to form words. Then, there is Lexic.
General Play:
Lexic provides a grid of letters. 5 Letters wide by 7 letters tall. (That?s 35 total letters, and NO, I did NOT need my calculator). To play, drag your finger vertically, horizontally, or diagonally over adjacent letter tiles to form words of 3 or more letters. When you complete a word, the tiles disappear, earning you points and allowing new tiles to drop in their place. The longer the word, the more points you receive. There are also randomly seeded gold tile. 1 gold tile is double your word points. Use 2, and your score is quadrupled.
Time:
Lexic allows you to choose your challenge. 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, or practice. Practice allows you to rack up as many words as you can with no time limit.
Graphics:
Lexic provides several different tile sets, so you can find one you like.
Word List:
Lexic provides two separate word lists to verify your submissions against.
TWL: The official Tournament Word List used for Scrabble tourneys in Thailand, Canada & the United States.
SOWPODS: The official word list used in most other countries.
Scores:
Lexic keeps track of high scores for each time setting, the best words, and practice scores.
Value: Good
Would I Buy Again: Yes.
Learning Curve: None to speak of.
My Likes: Selectable tile sets. Selectable word lists.
My Dislikes: I would prefer the ability to tap and select tiles, with a double tap to submit. The current interface can submit a word when you release the letter, which can cause you to miss extending the word.
Also, I would like the scoring to include letter values in addition to word length.
Final Statement: If you like word construction / search games, Lexic is a fine choice.
My Rating: 3.5 of 5
