Lock ‘n’ Load. The name itself suggested an afternoon of mindless iPhone and iPad fun involving blasting enemies to smithereens. Fortunately, I was not disappointed by this game, I hope this shows in my review. While the plotline does not serve much significance in Lock ‘n’ Load, the game basically involves players controlling a man in a hockey mask destroying the evil minions of an insane magic infused girl so as to stop her from achieving her evil plans.

Lock ‘n’ Load is a Chillingo game, like so many blockbusters before it (have you checked our review of The Fancy Pants Adventures, Cut The Rope or Contre Jour?) They are usually looking for the best combination of addicting game and in-app purchasing, Lock ‘n Load being no different from other games from the company in this regard.

Lock ‘n’ Load features twin-stick shooter control system. This means two joysticks are given to players to control their character. One controls the movements of the character, whereas the other stick allows players control over where to point and shoot their weapon. This twin-stick shooting system is not unique to Lock ‘n’ Load(has been used in countless iPhone and iPad shooters already, meaning iPad and iPhone gamers are used to it) but nevertheless is a refreshing experience compared to the classic d-pad and buttons from games of the same genre.

Lock ‘n’ Load is available in two different modes: Campaign and Mission mode. As previously mentioned, the plot of Lock ‘n’ Load hardly matters, as the whole idea of the game is just to destroy all the enemies that stand in your way as well as complete any assigned task by collecting items scattered across levels.

Upgrades are also made available as added incentives to play the game. Character upgrades and customization are some of the little perks the game has installed for players.

For $0.99, Lock ‘n’ Load is an awesome game that is worth a download. Easy fun for an endless stream of shooting.

Quick Take

Value:High

Would I Buy Again:Yes

Learning Curve:Simple. The twin joystick system is a breeze to handle.

Who Is It For:Gamers who like mindless shooting action

What I Like:Engaging gameplay

What I Don't Like:Game gets a little repetitive over time

Final Statement:Shoot all the minions!
