With Major Mayhem, Adult Swim took the traditional war shooter (such as Modern Combat 3) and added their unique brand of humor. The bad news is that the graphics aren’t quite as good as the aforementioned. What do you expect for a buck?

The premise of the game is that you’re the Major Mayhem (an actual soldier) of the title and have to go on combat missions to such locations as the tropics, a metropolis or a desert. While there, you have to fight enemies such as ninjas. And, oh yes, as the President says to the major, “They kidnapped your girlfriend.” As if the Major didn’t have enough motive with orders from his Commander-in-Chief.

For a 2D game, there are very good 3D graphics. Character designs are intentionally silly, like a 3D manga comic. I’d even say this game was good for kids, albeit intelligent kids with a good sense of humor. As the ninjas hit you more with their shuriken, you lose points and clothing such as your helmet and vest. You can get those back as you gain points by shooting the enemy.

A nice improvement for the game might be to use the 3D engine maybe and maybe get first-person perspective with the shooting. Of course, that would add an element of realism that Adult Swim might want to avoid. Game play also tends to be a bit redundant with no real story outside of shooting ninjas. Of course, that’s where the trademark Adult Swim humor comes in to add flavor.

You could do a lot worse for a universal app that costs a dollar.
