Though Apple Maps have improved a lot lately, it isn’t quite yet capable of over throwing Google Maps as my first choice. And I was very excited to find out the tricky way to cache G maps for offline use, but the ‘area limit’ was a blow off. Now, I have finally found an offline maps app worth keeping – MapsWithMe Pro. Offline Maps.
The app opens directly into a World atlas with My location, Search, Download and Bookmark options. Packing just the things we need, the interface is clean and easy to use. The canvas is similar to the ‘standard’ ones in Apple and Google Maps, showing only the Roads and Points of interest.
The ability to download huge chunks of maps is my favorite and probably what makes it worth the price. Thanks to their revolutionary compressing technology, even entire continents can be downloaded in under 50 megabytes. It took me less than 5 minutes to download the India pack! So if you’re new to a city and are on roaming or wtih a Wifi-only iPad or at a no-signal area, MapsWithMe Pro is a life saver.
The Search button can be used to find places as well as POI like Airports, Restaurants, Gas, ATM etc. And this works even in offline mode! Also, you can bookmark and share your location or destinations with friends and family via email, message or a link.
The only thing I miss is the real-time navigation option, but it seems too much for an app to handle offline. If you’re walking or can navigate by yourself, it wouldn’t be much of a problem, though. But I can assure that this is the best as far as saved maps are concerned and definitely does it better than Google.
In short, if you’ve been waiting for an awesome downloadable maps app or are planning to go on a trip abroad, MapsWithMe Pro is a must have!
