User Rating:Upon playing the game, I was pretty impressed by what I saw. I was never that big a fan of the board game, but the digital version makes it easy to understand the rules and play either in single player mode against the computer, or multiplayer mode.
You shake the device to roll the dice and the program moves your piece for you. When you land on a piece of property, the app gives you choices of what you want to do, either buy the property, trade properties you own with other players, or simply continue on.
The graphics and animation are superb. You can even choose the background environment in which you play the game, involving a selection or coffee tables or dinner tables. The game does have my favorite feature so I was able to listen to an audio book while buying Boardwalk.
There is an Options menu that allows the user to control several aspects of the game such as music and sound effect volume, the use of tutorials and shaking the device in order to roll the dice. You can even change the very rules of Monopoly itself (such as changing the amount of money you receive whenever you pass GO).
If you’re any sort of fan of the game, then the digital version of Monopoly for the iPhone and iPod touch is definitely worth the $3 investment and possibly worth the $5 one when its not on sale.
Quick Take
Value:High.
Would I Buy Again:For $3, definitely.
Learning Curve:Medium.
Who Is It For:Monopolists.
What I Like:Excellent graphics, animation, sound and tutorials.
What I Don't Like:Not much. Perhaps the original price was a bit high.
Final Statement:Pass GO, collect your $200 and use some of that money to buy this game.
