Muffin Knight, by Angry Mob Games, is one of the newest and best reviewed games available in the Apple App Store. It has an extremely unique premise, and the gameplay is very entertaining and involved. With graphics and a multiplayer system to back up their game, 24seven3D has found a hit on their hands.

The goal of the game is exactly as it sounds in the name, it is to fight for the muffins! You must go through each level and collect as many muffins as you can while sheep and pig-like creatures continually keep appearing at the top of the level and coming down to get you. The gameplay is similar to something like Super Smash Brothers because the levels take place in one spots, and most of the movement is up and down on platforms in the levels. The twist to this game is that the Muffin Knight has a curse that changes him into a different animal or creature each time he touches a muffin. This is where the game gets much more interesting.

If the game were based around a single character that had a few modes of shooting, this game would get very old very quickly. However, due to the curse the Muffin Knight suffers, Angry Mob Games was able to put fifteen characters into the game. Since the goal is to collect the muffins that appear, this means you are changing characters almost every few seconds. This makes it much more interesting, and it gives you a chance to develop favorite characters and modes of attack. Each creature has their own attack, from the Bird that flails his wings, or a Unicorn that poops rainbow bombs, to a simple Knight that shoots arrows. One character looks like an alien and shoots black holes, and another is a monkey and throws a boomerang. There is tons of variety, and that’s what keeps it interesting!

Throughout the game, the combination of kills and muffins that you collect determine what your XP is. You have the opportunity to level up the various characters to develop their attacks. This means you can pick the ones you really like, and level them up to three stars, but you have to level up all of them at some point because creature changing is completely random. While at first this kind of seems like a down side (you’ll find yourself wanting to stay with one or two characters you really like at one point), the challenge of learning all the new characters and using them appropriately is a lot of the fun. Also, by having to use all the characters, you’ll actually find that all of them have their strengths and weaknesses and can all be useful in different situations.

On the update side, the developers do a great job at putting out updates and introducing new characters and new levels. This is one area that games often fail, because the developers don’t listen to their customers or they don’t put out any new content. Over the last month, they’ve introduced new characters, multiple new levels, and the online multiplayer system. It’s very clear that they are in tune to the desires of their customers, and they are willing to put the work in to pump out updates.

Overall, this game is very addicting, and the gameplay experience is flawless and looks great. Multiplayer online is still a bit glitchy, but I’m sure that will be worked out soon since the developers pay such good attention. With more levels coming, and already plenty of levels and creatures to keep you entertained, this game is a very solid investment to expand your games collection on your iPhone.
