User Rating:Just because a game is being a produced on a platform that can’t produce high definition quality graphics and offer hours of thumb wrangling game time doesn’t mean it can’t produce a decent story.
"Machine vs. Machinegun," also known by its acronym "MVMG," manages to create a very deep immersion that few iPhone games can claim with an interesting combination of interactivity and graphics topped off with a cohesive story.
You play a stranded military man in the remnants of a man versus machine war that has killed his entire squadron and left him with nothing but his wits, his timing and an unending amount of ammo to feed through his automatic machine gun.
The depth of the graphics give the game an almost three-dimensional feel as robots of all shapes, heights and sizes have you swinging your weapon across all sides of the screen. Some take a few more hits than others to knock out but upgrades to your weapon can make them crash quicker and health improvements can help you last longer (if health power-ups last longer than four hours, consult a physician iimmediately).
Even though it’s fun shooting wave after wave of killbots, it can get a little repetitive and the challenge factor is a bit skewed. The easy level feels way too hard and the hard level is undescribably difficult. There are upgrades that can help clear enemies that have collected together at once, but they don’t come along as often as they should.
Still, it’s a fun way to take on a robot uprising and will adequately prepare you for the day when smartphones get too smart for their own good.
Quick Take
Value:You get plenty of bang for your buck.
Would I Buy Again:Of course, considering that the dollar hasn't been replaced by lugnuts after the robot revolt.
Learning Curve:As easy as shooting robotic fish in a barrel.
Who Is It For:People who need to take out their aggression on electronic items without destroying their iPhone
What I Like:The story, graphics and interaction make it quite immersive
What I Don't Like:Overcoming an actual robot army isn't this hard.
Final Statement:Buy it because the robots are coming. You've been warned.
