User Rating:The online TV and film-streaming service from the States has truly landed and made a massive impact here in Europe. In a market that was previously dominated by Lovefilm, Netflix has arrived to give the service a run for its money, resulting the streaming giants going head-to-head with great libraries of films and TV, competitive prices, and high-quality streams.
Now, I’m a fan of both these services, and indeed own both, but one area in which Netflix has really won out is its Android app. While Lovefilm’s app is good for pretty much nothing, Netflix brings its whole easy-to-use computer service to Android.
The app has a simple interface, featuring Home, Genres, Search and Options and Queue tabs. The app syncs everything you were doing on other devices from the same account, so you can continue watching a show you started watching on another device right from where you left off.
The exact same vast selection of films and TV is available here as you get on your computer or other device. My view on Netflix in comparison to Lovefilm has always been that Netflix is better for TV shows, B-movies, and the occasional contemporary hit, while Lovefilm has a more, shall we say, sophisticated selection. Both services definitely tick different boxes, but this one lets you watch things on the go, so there’s no competition when it comes to mobile viewing.
Netflix for Android is simple, easy to use, and provides a fantastic selection of things for you to watch. The picture quality automatically adapts to your signal quality, so unless you’re in a remote part of the country, you can pretty much watch it from anywhere. Just keep an eye on those monthly data usage limits, because with this app, you may hit your usage limits before you know it…
We rate this app 4 out of 5 stars.
