Plague Inc. is a neat game. Your goal? Defeat mankind! You are a dangerous enemy: bacteria, virus, whatever, and have to evolve from ‘nothing’ to ‘pandemia’. The app is universal, working as well in iPads and iPhones.
Plague Inc. comes just a few days after Pandemic 2.5 hit the App Store. Pandemic is the original plague setting game, and its iOS port is very good, as we have already stated in its review. Although Plague Inc. includes some different game mechanics, and is (considered alone) I can’t help finding it as a kind of rip-off of the original.
Don’t let that bother you. Plague Inc. offers some slightly different game mechanics. For example, you can’t unlock different varieties of organisms (like viruses) before you have won the game as a bacteria. Also an interesting addition is the expansion mechanism: to get a symptom (say, sneezing) you need the previous one (coughing.) This makes gameplay more challenging but also somewhat more enjoyable. To unlock a symptom, ability or transmission vector you need “evolution points” that you gather in three different ways. The most straightforward: infecting/killing people. The other?
Well, Plague Inc. also includes some dynamic gameplay settings: DNA evolution “bubbles” will pop in your infected countries, giving you a chance to get random points by tapping at them. Also, as soon as your disease spreads to a new country, a red bubble will likewise pop in the new country. And you can fight the disease’s cure progress by tapping blue “cure” bubbles.
In short: Plague Inc. is an interesting strategic game, putting you in control of a mankind-killer disease.
