Now Playing…  it’s like MovieFone on steroids.

I love movies, am not all that discriminating about what I see and am fortunate to live in an area with an abundance of theaters. Even with all that, however, find the right movie at the right time is never easy. MovieFone helps but… I hate all the menus (not to mention THAT voice). Since its initial release I have been using Box Office. Its been great but for some reason it got pulled. Now its back as Now Playing. Same app, new name, same great features. 

Finding A Specific Movie

Now Playing makes quick work of locating the movie you want in the theater where you want to see it. To get started to need to go to the setup page. After inputting your Postal Code you can select the distance within which you want to search, as well as the day you are looking to see a movie. You can choose whether you want to view movie rating from RottenTomatoes or Metacritic. You can even use the location feature to update your current location automatically.

You can then choose whether you want to search for theaters or for specific movies. Within the "Movies" tab you can sort movies based on Title, Score or Release Date. The "Theaters" tab allows you to sort based on the theater’s name or distance from your location.

In all, the numerous ways to search and sort information is great. The flexibility allows you to quickly find the movie you want.

Finding Details On A Specific Movie

Once you find the movie you want Now Playing gives you tons of information on it. You can see the times it is playing, a brief synopsis of it, its rating and its length. You can also view trailers or read numerous reviews from either RottenTomatoes or Metacritic.

In all, Now Playing is a superb little app. It is stable, fast and chock full of information. Best of all when you use it you won’t have to hear-
"Welcome to Now Playing, for the movie you want to see Press 1, for a list of theaters near you Press 2."

Who is it for: Anyone who has ever or will ever watched a movie
What I like: Easy to use, fast, highly configurable, provides tons of useful information in a clear, concise manner
What I Don’t: Nothing.
Final Statement: This is one of those apps that everyone ought to have on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Even if you only use it once in a while it will save time (compared to looking online or calling MovieFone) and give you all the information you need.
