Did you spend this Valentine’s Day alone? Did your girlfriend/boyfriend dump you on or before this holiday of love? Maybe you just strictly hate Valentine’s Day (surprisingly a lot of people do). Or perhaps you are just emo and like anything that would make yourself or others sad? No matter what your reasoning, Rogue Cupid is the game for you! Help ruin society’s outlook on Valentine’s Day with your trusty bow & arrow and become the new Anti-Cupid!

Essentially Rogue Cupid is an extremely simple game. Open up the application and it will immediately throw you into the game, no options screen, no preferences, just instant gaming! The first minute or so you play you will be helped out by convenient pop-up bubbles that tell you about the controls and such. Controls are easy once you get the hang out it. Place your first finger and ring finger on the screen and a bow will show up, once your bow is visible drag your middle finger to place an arrow and release your finger to shoot. The objective is to shoot down the floating hearts. Each time you shoot a heart it will slowly diminish society’s view on Valentine’s Day. Going from Be Mine all the way to Total Chaos and blood raining from the sky. The soundtrack is decent and progresses each time you reach a new level of negativity towards Valentine’s Day.

I have two complaints with this application. 1) I enjoy Valentine’s Day, and I enjoy spending the money on gifts for my girlfriend, making her breakfast in bed, doing nice things for her, etc. Saying that, ruining society’s view on Valentine’s Day isn’t really something I enjoy. Plenty of people hate Valentine’s Day, so this is strictly a personal preference and not a problem with the application. 2) Each heart you pop emits a scream. Plenty of people like this I’m sure, but I would much rather a simple pop sound, or maybe an options menu that gave the options to turn off sound effects, or change the sound effects. I know I know I could have just turned off the volume completely, but what can I say, the music wasn’t bad!

QUICK TAKE

Value: Medium

Would I Buy Again: No

Learning Curve: Easy-Medium

Who is it For: Anyone, it’s a game!

My Likes: Nice use of multi-touch. Good graphics, and nice soundtrack.

My Dislikes: Screams from popping balloons.

Final Statement: Rogue Cupid is a quick and fun game. It will easily keep you entertained for a few minutes, but don’t expect much more than that. It’s a nice little game to let you take your anger out on Valentine’s Day.

Read the Developer's Notes:
Valentine's Day is about love, sharing, and kindness. But more importantly, it's about buying flowers, chocolates, cards and generally driving sales through emotionally exploitive marketing! If you love Valentine's Day, you will appreciate Rogue Cupid for its floating hearts and calming, melodious harp music. If you're more curious, hold two fingers on the screen to bring up cupid's bow! Use a third finger to draw an arrow back and let go to fire! Golly, you're a real life cupid! You shouldn't shoot the floating hearts though - they represent society's Valentine's Day spirit...For the pure of heart, Rogue Cupid is the perfect, relaxing Valentine's Day companion. For the rest of us, Rogue Cupid is just what Valentine's Day should be.P.S. There's a small easter egg on Valentine's Day - see if you can spot the difference!
