User Rating:In the latest Gameloft release, Silent Ops, you work as a highly-skilled member of a secret organization. It is your job to protect people from other organizations like yours. Why? Well, not all of the organizations have good intentions.
You’ll play as three different characters, each with his or her own speciality. When playing as these characters, you’ll run, jump, climb, hide, and, of course, shoot. I did find some of the characters’ sayings a little annoying and random. As you are walking, a character may just blurt out, “I love my job,” or something else ridiculously unnecessary.
There is a blue icon which helps you reach your next destination. As you approach your destination, the blue number will grow smaller, letting you know that you are getting closer. I really liked this feature.
After you reach a destination, there is sometimes a cut scene, which I found to be of incredible quality. The rest of the game graphics aren’t too far behind, but I did find them to be just a little more blocky and unnatural.
It must be pointed out that Silent Ops features third-person shooting, which may be a deal breaker for some. But if you’re alright with third-person gameplay, this game is definitely worth your consideration. It comes with 7 levels, each of good length and moderate challenge. If you want more of a challenge, you can opt to play the normal mode rather than easy. There is also a hard mode, but you’ll have to beat normal before this is unlocked.
For about $7, you’ll get a good shooter that almost rivals some console games, at least in terms of graphics. This game has everything a good action game has: violence, challenge, and the definitely-impossible sequences that come across as phoney. If this sounds like your kind of game, I doubt that you’ll find anything better.
Quick Take
Value:Medium, price a little high.
Would I Buy Again:Maybe at a discounted price.
Learning Curve:Medium, controls always take a little getting used to.
Who Is It For:Those who enjoy the serious shooters.
What I Like:Good graphics and storyline.
What I Don't Like:Price is high, and the characters? sayings annoyed me.
Final Statement:You?ll be on the edge of your seat when playing this thrilling, action-filled game.
Another highly influential group intends to launch their own sinister plot which may hold profound consequences for humanity.
