SJ is not for your average Joe. It seems more like one of those espionage devices instead. SJ is basically a communications tool, albeit a very expensive one.
In today’s modern society, stealing secrets no longer revolve around hijacking horseback messengers or shooting down pigeons with notes tied to their feet. Instead, much can be done in the cyber world. Text messages, files, these can all be tapped on and information stolen by those with the know-how, which can prove disastrous in certain industries.
SJ stands for Safety Jabber. It serves as a communications platform whereby users can supposedly transmit their messages and even files privately without worrying about someone else tapping and leeching off their secrets.
Setting up the app can get rather tricky, with all the understanding needed about encryption methods. Thankfully, leaving everything to default by the app seems to do the trick as well. Complicated encryption keys aside, the app itself is a breeze to use and straight to the point. Simply tap on the chat tab and select the contact you wish to converse with. A nifty little blip at the top of the screen shows if the ongoing conversation is encrypted, for that added sense of security. In other words, the app takes the thinking out of a rightfully troublesome and complicated process, making things much simpler for the user without compromising on actual security.
File transfer is done via SendSpace, where the intended recipient is given a password to unlock and download the given file.
But at $49.99 this is definitely not for the typical consumer. The high price was set probably to market it as an upscale, exclusive tool to be used only by those who really need the security. Think businessmen dealing with millions of dollars, politicians and even army personnel who cannot risk data being compromised.

An important thing to consider is that a network connection does not necessarily provide any kind of real protection for privacy. Hence, your concerns would be serious that your correspondence could be read by anyone who is able to intercept the communication. Your chats could be read by your ISP (internet service provider), administrators, or other IT people where you work. If you’re outside the office at a university or an internet-café, even the server administrators at these internet connection sources could intercept messages which originate from you to the recipient. These administrators could read your chats and forward them on to whomever they choose. Therefore, by using SJ, you have the ability to speak only in encrypted chats between you and other SJ users. Each of the above-mentioned organizations that scan communication as well as other groups would still have access to the correspondence; however, because of the encryption, they will have no idea regarding the content of the conversation. These principles of privacy are built directly into SJ.
