Stealth Checkers is an interesting take on two of the most “classic” Western board games: checkers and chess. I have played a few games and I must confess it is fun, quick to play and very original.

How does it work? You start just like in a checkers game, with a special piece: the king. Then there are two game modes: kill all or kill the king. I prefer kill the king… But this is just because I have played a lot of chess in my life 😉 Back to how it works, there are two dice you can throw. One determines how the piece moves: rook, bishop, queen, king, pawn or knight. The other determines how many spaces the piece can move (for pawns, king or knight it does not matter.) Then you pick a piece (any piece, even the king!) and move this number of spaces. Yes, you read right: you can move your king as if it was a knight, provided you roll a knight.

Stealth Checkers combines the same number of checkers with the movements and goals of chess… And it adds in the randomness of backgammon. The game is pretty well-rounded: both players are equally able to win, games are quite fast to finish (since there’s less tactical warfare than in chess) and they can be pretty fun, since both players can hide the king (to both, if you choose to hide, you need to remember where your king was!)

In short: StealthCheckers is a very interesting take on a classical game. A great game to play this Christmas!
