Sudoku Puzzle Packs is one incredible app. What makes it better than the hundreds of other sudoku apps is not its $0 price tag or its gradual Trainee-to-Wizard training process (both of which are great), but what really sets this app apart is its superb interface and gameplay.
The app’s interface is simply incredible. Press any of the unfilled sudoku squares and be greeted by a popup, which can fill the square with any number or, if the square is already filled, erase the entry. (You can tell if a square is erasable as it is grey, as it is written in “pencil”, versus black.)
Sudoku’s personalizable interface (you can choose from numerous colorful themes and great sound effects) provides the perfect sudoku-on-iPhone (and iPad) experience.
I also really appreciated the app’s previously-mentioned gradual training process. Don’t exactly know how to play sudoku? This is not a problem with Sudoku Puzzle Packs. It will train you, beginning with a 4×4 board, then a 6×6 board, and finally the typical 9×9 board.
While all of this is great, the sample pack progresses very quickly. There are not many puzzles (only 6) and this leaves much to be desired. If you would like to practice more with the smaller boards, or would like to challenge yourself with the more difficult puzzles, then you can download more packs (as the name implies) for $2.99. Puzzle packs can also be unlocked for free with ads.
This app will not disappoint sudoku newbies, or seasoned sudoku players.
