User Rating:When I bought my iPad, I must admit I wasn’t even sure what I was supposed to go and use it for. Playing games and sending mail, I suppose. Maybe look at some pictures. It was just something I longed to own. Nowadays I can’t seem to put the thing down! In a few months I have come to appreciate on of it’s finest functions: reading. My Flipboard app makes it so easy to browse web pages as if they’re pages in a magazine and more and more publishers are waking up to the possibilities that the ipad has as a reader. Such as this interactive children’s bible.
San Francisco based software developers XIMAD have launched one of their largest projects so far, a series of animated eBooks for iPads called “BooksAlive”. We took a good look at their children’s bible and we loved it! The texts, to be frank, are a bit heavy handed for young kids, I felt. Too many “therefores” and I think you need to do quite a bit of explaining if you’re going to read this with a child. What I liked about my old children’s bible was that the language was suitable for kids, which made the stories far easier to understand than the real bible.
However, we loved the way it made use of the ipad’s possibilities. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Every page is lovingly designed to explain the story of Jesus to children. There are moving elements and interactive parts: touch here and the angel’s wings move, tilt it there and the stars move. Lovely.
We rate this app 3.5 out of 5 stars.
