User Rating:With a lot of magazines going digital nowadays, the only question we should be asking is what took Time Out London so long to release an app. Of course, it may have something to do with the timing of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Let’s start with the positive: if you like either the Time Out magazine or website, you’ll love this app. The aesthetic is pretty much identical to the magazine. It’s searchable and has listings of things to do all over London accompanied by full-color pictures and descriptions. It’s amazingly easy to navigate around and has more stuff to do than you could possibly do in a lifetime in London. You can organize events by day, location or type. You can also allocate favorites for certain pages or events and allocate shortcuts in the app for them. Did I mention that if there’s a data connection the app constantly updates itself? Well, it does.
The negative: this seems silly, but the app is landscape only. I could be considered a bit nitpicky about this, but I prefer magazine apps to be portrait because the dimensions are closer to that of a traditional magazine. It doesn’t rotate either. However, it seems a small sacrifice to keep the iPad on its side in order to sift through this information.
There are new features forthcoming and the app itself is free. If you’re travelling to London or are even thinking of travelling to London, this app is a mandatory download for your iPad.
