User Rating:Disney doesn’t usually skimp on its video games. When combined with Pixar, who pretty much pioneered the concept of CGI, expectations are higher than they would be for a standard Joe Sixpack developed game. However, there is also the consideration that Disney tends to market to a very young crowd and as a result they keep their videogames pretty simple.
Toy Story Mania is based on the Disney ride of the same name. Sadly, it’s nowhere near as impressive. They only have the Toy Story theme playing in the background, using none of the character voices. Even the animation for the tours and help screens aren’t as impressive as such caliber should lend them to be.
This is not to say that this is a bad game. It is quite simply a first-person shooter (or dart-thrower or egg-thrower, depending on which toy you select in the opening menu). If it were anything less than Disney, I’d be fairly impressed (it would also likely be 60% cheaper). But it’s Disney AND Pixar. This game should rock my socks off, and it’s just kind of "eh".
On the other hand, I’m probably not the game’s target market. This is intended for kids with an iPod Touch who would simply be impressed at having a game with the words "Toy Story" on the cover and seeing the characters interact within it.
Admittedly, I only played the first few levels of the balloon game. Perhaps it gets more impressive later on or with other sections. If for no other reason, I’ll keep this game on my iPod Touch to impress my niece and nephews when I next see them.
Pros: Decent graphics. Good, but not great, game.
Cons: Expected more from a Disney/Pixar game.
