You’re in a foreign land, speaking to a foreigner. You don’t understand his native language, and you don’t have a friend who knows the tongue with you. So what can you do?
You’re speaking to a tourist, he needs directions. You are not versed in his native tongue, and you have no idea how to spell the words into Google Translate either. What can you do?
WithVoice Translator, simply speak into your device and let it do the work for you. Two text boxes for each respective language appear on the screen, with the app typing out both languages to make it real specific on what is being translated.
I felt the app needs a little refining in picking up phrases though, as when I spoke to the app in quick sentences using Chinese, I received error messages or wrong interpretations of what I said. Users will find that they have to dramatically slow down their speech for certain languages for the app to be able to pick up each and every word. English worked fine at a normal, conversational pace but going too fast confused the app as well. The app is able to understand accents pretty well though.
The creative might also want to use this to teach themselves a new language, by learning phrases they feel are relevant towards their daily conversations and expanding upon that slowly. I am not sure about the grammatical and structural accuracy of the app carried across to all languages though.
With over 60 languages supported, this is one translator that is worth my dollar.
