User Rating:Another 80’s icon (well, late 80’s) comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch in the form of Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey, the same title as Waldo’s 1989 book.
Like the illustrated literature that preceeded it, the objective of the game is to find Waldo (or Wally, as he’s known in the U.K.) in a crowd of people.
The game is geared towards children, obviously. I don’t know of many adults who give a toss about where Waldo is located. They’re more concerned about getting to work on time. As a kid’s game, it works well.
The app is essentially an interactive version of the book. It tells the reader’s name and tells a story which leads into every illustration. The user must then find Waldo and/or one of his friends or enemies (Whitebeard, Odlaw, Woof, etc.) as well as other items in the illustration. The app differentiates itself from the books by having moving pieces here and there for the purpose of distraction. It’s also possible to drag the illustration in any direction to go to different sections. Once you tap the correct person, the wizard Whitebeard tells you that you did a good job.
The options allow you to control different sets of volumes (music, sfx and voice). It’s also possible to see the different "worlds" of the game (i.e. different scenes in which Waldo is "lost").
Overall, if you have a child of "Where’s Waldo?" age and that child has an iPod Touch, this app is a good investment for those long car rides or waiting times in the doctor’s office.
