User Rating:With a name like Wolfenstein, you’d think the plotline would match closely to the original series that was released back in the 80’s. Even though the game carries the Wolfenstein name, this version is much different. It involves werewolves, elite soldiers, and zombies. It involves pseudo-Nazis performing scientific experiments on captives. In the story, the lead character is a soldier assigned to stop the experiments going on in the castle. He uses a variety of weapons including flamethrower, rocket launcher, and a Tesla to take down the games ‘monsters’. Along the way, he discovers various levels, even one that lets him create his own monster drink.
Due to the complexity of the game, it does take time to sit and go through the tutorial in order to learn the exact rules and gameplay. The game isn’t as exciting as other first-person games, the primary reason being that since it’s an RPG, the fights involve taking turns as if the characters were opposing soldiers on a Revolutionary War battlefield.
The game looks somewhat old school and the graphics and motion are somewhat choppy. That’s likely intentional. The game does have a pretty sophisticated options menu that allows for control of many aspects of the game. The user can save and continue the game at any point during play. If one is bored with continuous play, there are some mini-games as well called "War" and "Chicken Kicking".
Castle Wolfenstein RPG isn’t a bad game, but it isn’t particularly thrilling either. It’s a first-person shooter combined with a virtual mystery that must be solved. If you like a game that combines the two, then this game is for you. If you prefer one or the other, then perhaps you should look for something else.
